I am formally a member of the Maths and Stats department at Lancaster university, however, my interests are largely on the computational side of corpus linguistics, especially:
I try to be relatively dedicated to just a few things, lest everything distract me. I used to rock-climb regularly, and was once rather good at 9-ball pool. These days my interests lie more in music and whatever exercise I must do to stay fit & sane.
What that means is that I am lucky enough to be in a position to go walking in the Lakes District of a weekend. The picture is to prove that I'm not lying.
My other love is playing the guitar. I'm interested in the more technical end of hard rock and metal, as well as classic blues & jazz --- people like Protest the Hero, Sikth and the Human Abstract. Some day I will hunt down Paul Gilbert and steal his fingers. There's a gratuitous picture of my beloved Ibanez S7420 simply because it's shiny.
I don't use this an awful lot, but my public key is online in binary or ascii formats.
Unlike Knuth I do not have the luxury of avoiding email. Please email me at
stephenwattam--at--gmail
or
s.wattam--at--lancs.ac.uk
if you wish get in touch.
If you're reading this and don't know me, Please, please email, even if you have nothing to say. No-one ever emails and some days I even end up getting work done. This must be remedied.
For more details of various social networking services I use, head on over the contact page.
I can usually be found in #lucs on irc.freenode.net. This is the Lancaster University Computing Society room, and gets moderate usage depending on the time of year.
You can see if I'm online using the IRC applet here, which will connect you straight to the lancaster university computing society room. I might be away from a machine, t'is luck of the draw. Also, people can be quite sarcastic so be nice.
